Hardware That Moves Your Crosshair
Your mouse's polling rate, sensor lift-off distance, and surface friction determine how faithfully your hand motion translates to on-screen movement. Even a 1 ms difference in report interval can feel like a ghost in competitive aim maps.
Polling Rate: 1000 Hz vs 4000 Hz
At 1000 Hz your mouse reports position every 1 ms; at 4000 Hz that drops to 0.25 ms. Benchmarks on the Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2 show a measurable reduction in micro-stutter during flick shots at 4000 Hz, but CPU usage rises by roughly 3–5 % on Core i5-12400F-class rigs. If your system handles it, enable 4000 Hz; otherwise stick to 1000 Hz — anything lower (500 Hz, 125 Hz) introduces visible input lag.
Sensor Lift-Off & LOD Tuning
Lift-off distance (LOD) is the height at which your sensor stops tracking. A high LOD (e.g., 12 mm on older PixArt 3335 chips) causes cursor drift when you lift the mouse between flicks. Modern sensors like the PAW3950 (used in the Endgame Gear OP1we and Vaxee Outset AX) default to 1–2 mm LOD, effectively eliminating lift-off errors. Adjust LOD in your mouse's driver software to the lowest stable value for your mousepad.
Mousepad Surface & Skates
Cloth pads like the Artisan Hien Soft (3.2 mm) offer consistent glide with mild braking; hard pads like the LGG V3 Pro deliver speed but amplify micro-jitters. Windows Mouse Settings That Kill Your Aim

Disable "Enhance Pointer Precision"
Navigate to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse → Additional mouse settings → Pointer Options and uncheck "Enhance pointer precision." Set Windows Pointer Speed to 6/11

Disable Mouse Acceleration via Registry
Even with "Enhance pointer precision" off, Windows can apply subtle acceleration. USB Selective Suspend & Power Management
Windows may throttle USB ports to save power, causing polling-rate drops mid-session. Open Device Manager, expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers," right-click each "USB Root Hub" → Properties → Power Management, and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device." Also disable USB selective suspend in Control Panel → Power Options → Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings.
Driver Configuration for Clean Input
Your mouse's companion software controls DPI steps, polling rate, lift-off distance, and onboard profiles. Misconfigured drivers add smoothing, acceleration, or profile-switching delays that degrade aim consistency.
Logitech G HUB: Essential Settings
Open G HUB → select your mouse → Settings. Set Polling Rate to 1000 Hz (or 4000 Hz if supported). Under DPI, create a single profile step matching your in-game sensitivity (e.g., 400 DPI for 0.3–0.5 in-game sens). Disable Lift-Off Distance adjustment unless you need it for a specific pad. Turn off all RGB breathing effects to reduce CPU interrupt load. Save the profile to onboard memory so it persists across systems.
Razer Synapse 4: Essential Settings
In Synapse 4 → select your mouse → Performance. Set Polling Rate to 1000 Hz. Under DPI, configure a single stage (e.g., 800 DPI) and disable all other stages. Set Sensor Lift-Off Distance to "Low."
